Special counsel Mueller investigating Jared Kushner’s finances

Rod Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general, appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as a special prosecutor in an investigation of alleged collusion between Trump associates and Russian Federation in the 2016 election.Mueller was appointed last month as special counsel to lead the probe, after Trump abruptly fired FBI Director James Comey.Heck was referring to the growing number of legal teams forming as a result of the special counsel investigation into whether Russian Federation meddled in the 2016 US presidential election.Rosenstein was also the author of a memo recommending the dismissal of FBI Director James Comey, which the White House cited along with a memo from Sessions as the reason Trump fired Comey on May 9.So, now, Trump tweets it is a witch hunt that Rosenstein is investigating him for firing Comey.Comey was sacked on 9 May, and initially the White House cited his handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server as the reason for his termination, releasing a memo authored by deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein as a basis for this action.The White House has directed questions to outside legal counsel, which has not responded.Sessions said only the president has to power to invoke executive privilege but explained that neither he nor Trump had made a decision to do so. An official of Trump’s transition confirmed the lawyer’s internal order sent Thursday.Friday’s tweets are the latest in a week of angry social media responses by the President over a report by The Washington Post that Mr Mueller was looking into whether Mr Trump obstructed justice. When asked about it Friday, the vice president dismissed it as “routine”.Trump’s tweet was part of an early-morning tweetstorm in which he went after the Russian Federation investigations and the “Fake News Media”.Those who have agreed to be interviewed include: Dan Coats, director of national intelligence; Mike Rogers, chief of the National Security Agency; and Richard Ledgett, who recently left his post as deputy to Rogers.Friday’s tweet marked the first time Mr Trump has publicly acknowledged he is under investigation.Before his dismissal, Comey confirmed the Federal Bureau of Investigation had been investigating alleged Russian government efforts to interfere in the election, including any links between Trump’s campaign and Moscow.
