The Aquaman movie is not expected until 2018 meaning Jason Momoa will be breaking in on first on Justice League this coming November. He and co-star Amber Heard are filming Aquaman down under, allowing the 37-year-old actor to keep track of his favorite sport, rugby.
Both Momoa and Heard were spotted at the State of Origin rugby tournament where the actor was obviously supporting the Queensland Maroons. The 37-year-old even brought his kids along (9-year-old Lola and 8-year-old Nakoa-Wolf) and all seemed to enjoy backing the Maroons.
Break from Aquaman movie work
Momoa and Heard have been filming for the Aquaman movie in the Gold Coast of Queensland since early this month. Amber did share some set photos, a water break that involved Momoa and director James Wan, Coming Soon reported.
Like Momoa, Heard is expected to be in Justice League when the film debuts later this year. She holds the role of Mera, Aquaman’s queen and fellow superhero.
Heard was earlier spotted donning the Mera wardrobe, and fans were sent into a frenzy with the new version costume. While she was one of the first characters in costume seen for Justice League, fans will have to wait for December 21, 2018, to see more of Momoa and her on the solo film.
Lots of work ahead for Aquaman movie
The time off could be taken in two ways. One is that production for Aquaman could be going on smoothly and hence allowing the co-stars to take some time off. Aside from Momoa and Heard, other stars cast for the solo film include Willem Dafoe (Nuidis Vulko), Temuera Morrison (Tom Curry), Dolph Lundgren (Nereus), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Black Manta), Ludi Lin (Murk), Patrick Wilson (Orm/Ocean Master), Nicole Kidman (Atlanna) and Michael Beach (Jesse Kane).
Some breadcrumbs for that movie should be teased on Justice League, particularly the part when he is recruited. From that sequence, Mera could make a cameo unless she joins the fight with the rest of the super friends.
Batman and Wonder Woman will lead the formation of the Justice League and trailers have already provided glimpses how Aquaman, the Flash and Cyborg will come into play. Superman is expected to rise from the grave though it will come through an unusual evil route as covered in a previous report.
With the stage set, Justice League should lay the groundwork for the Aquaman movie for late 2018. The gathering should be something, an appetizer for DC fans to look forward to each superhero’s origin.
