Once again, reports on “Chumlee dead over marijuana overdose” are making its rounds on the web. The Pawn Star personality has been the subject of such rumors for years. Fortunately, it has been proven that the latest “Chumlee dead” report is just one of those celebrity death hoaxes.
Austin “Chumlee” Russell has been a household name since he first appeared on the History show, Pawn Stars, in 2009. He is just one of the stars of the show but perhaps the most popular of all. Chumlee was thought to be dead by some fans even though he has been very active on social media.
Why is Chumlee Always a Victim of Death Hoax?
The first time Chumlee became a death hoax victim was in 2013. He allegedly passed away due to marijuana overdose and was found by his friend and Pawn Stars co-star Corey “Big Hoss” Harrison. The death hoax was believed to stem from the fact that in that same year, Chumlee was noticeably thinner. The TV personality lost 75 pounds by working out at a gym six days a week and improving his diet and lifestyle.
The following year, another Chumlee dead report surfaced on eBuzzd. This time, he allegedly died of heart attack. Chumlee himself debunked the death hoax. His boss at Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, Rick Harrison, also assured fans that the actor was fine. He added that his employee lost more than 100 pounds and was in “the best health of his life.” The website which posted the report later retracted it.
Earlier this year, news about Chumlee dead again began circulating on the internet. His fans got worried especially since he was inactive on social media at the time and his fans were not used to it. Fortunately, all of these death hoaxes are not true and Chumlee is very much alive. In fact, he ventured into a new business. See photos below.
Chumlee’s Business Ventures
Last month, the Pawn Stars celebrity opened a candy store along with his brother at Pawn Plaza in downtown Las Vegas. The store is open from noon to 5 PM on Wednesdays through Sundays. Chumlee also established his own company that sells novelty items such as t-shirts that he designed himself. However, he sold half of his company to Rick Harrison for $155,000 in 2010.
The employee of the world-famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop is depicted not only as the comic relief in Pawn Stars. He is also an expert when it comes to basketball shoes, particularly Air Jordan sneakers. Chumlee is also known to be the go-to guy when it comes to pinball machines and gas-powered toy cars.
