Jay Z Announces New Album and New Rap Name After Beyonce's Twin Birth

These days, Jay Z has more announcements other than having twins this week as the Jay Z new album has been revealed. In addition, the rapper is changing his name once again.

The music mogul and his wife, Beyonce, welcomed their twins over the weekend. Soon after, Jay Z announced the release of a new LP. To the surprise of many, the album also carries Jay Z’s new name (or at least the formatted version of it).

Jay Z New Name

It is not actually as big a change as you think. The rapper brought back the hyphen and capitalized the whole name. It is now written as JAY-Z. For the album cover, however, it was formatted as JAY:Z. It was assumed that it was written so to compliment the title of his new album.

Back in 2013, Beyonce’s husband announced that he dropped the hyphen from his name after two decades of embracing it. With that, he went from being known as Jay-Z to Jay Z. Now, he is known as JAY-Z, also known as HOV. JAY-Z’s real name is Shawn Corey Carter.

The new LP is titled 4:44. It is the rapper’s thirteenth solo studio album and the first since his 2013’s Magna Carta Holy Grail. The Jay Z new album was first teased last week with a mysterious campaign online and on posters which featured the numbers “4:44” and the date “6.30.17.” See poster below.

The latest album will officially drop on June 30. However, it will not be available to everyone just yet. Subscribers of Tidal or Sprint in America can download or stream the album. For those outside the U.S., 4:44 can be streamed only on Tidal for now, Billboard noted. It’s unclear when the exclusive window will end.

This is the first-of-its-kind partnership between Tidal and Sprint. Earlier this year, Jay Z’s company sold a 33 percent stake to Sprint for $200 million. This gives Tidal access to the telecom company’s 45 million customers.

Prior the official 4:44 reveal, Sprint also shared a 30-second snippet of the Grammy-winning artist’s song Adnis for the upcoming film of the same name. The clip features Moonlight star Mahershala Ali as a boxer. Jay Z’s name was also formatted in the preview as JAY:Z.

News on the surprise new album came just in time as Jay Z and Beyonce welcome their twins. The former was also inducted recently into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, becoming the first rapper to achieve that honor.
