Louis Tomlinson Talks One Direction Reunion: 'What Have I Done to Contribute to 1D?'

A One Direction reunion is still possible especially after Louis Tomlinson admitted that he disagrees with the decision for the band to go on hiatus. Tomlinson opened up about what he thinks about his band mates and how to be “forgettable” in 1D. He also contemplated on what he has done for his group.

Tomlinson revealed that he was against the idea of 1D going on hiatus in early 2016. He said at the time the decision was made, he was just starting to get his confidence in performing on stage. “You know I didn’t sing a single solo on the X Factor. A lot of people can take the piss out of that. But when you actually think about how that feels, standing on stage every single week, thinking: ‘What have I really done to contribute here?’ ” he told The Observer (via The Guardian).

Despite the fame of the British boy band, Tomlinson admitted he had a hard time getting comfortable with his group. He acknowledged that in One Direction, he was seen by some as “forgettable, to a certain degree.” When he was with the band, Tomlinson said, “the others have always been … Like Niall [Horan], for example. He’s the most lovely guy in the world. Happy-go-lucky Irish, no sense of arrogance. And he’s fearless. There are times I’ve thought, ‘I’d have a bit of that.’

“Zayn [Malik], back in the day. He could relate to me on a nerves level. In the first year, we were both the least confident. But Zayn has a fantastic voice and for him, it was always about owning that,” Tomlinson continued. “Liam [Payne] always had a good stage presence, same as Harry [Styles], they’ve both got that ownership. Harry comes across very cool. Liam’s all about getting the crowd going, doing a bit of dancing … And then there’s me.” Tomlinson added.

Louis Tomlinson as a Solo Artist

The 25-year-old new dad also admitted that he initially did not plan to have a solo career. But now, Tomlinson is following his former band mates’ career path. “If you’d asked me a year or 18 months ago: ‘Are you going to do anything as a solo artist?’ I’d have said absolutely not,” Louis Tomlinson said.

He released his collaborative single Just Hold On with American DJ Steve Aoki on Dec. 10, 2016, days after his mother died from leukemia. The 1D member dedicated the single to his late mother. Tomlinson is currently preparing for the release of his single, Back to You, featuring American singer Bebe Rexha and Digital Farm Animals.

Louis Tomlinson on One Direction Reunion

Tomlinson hasn’t had a chance to be with his former bandmates recently. The last time a One Direction reunion happened was when Harry Styles, Liam Payne, and Niall Horan supported Louis on the debut of his first solo single last year. Tomlinson and Aoki performed Just Hold On live for the first time in the X Factor UK season finale last year, and his band mates were there. Tomlinson has been very vocal about their willingness to get back on stage with the other members of 1D.

Horan and Payne, meanwhile, recently had a mini-reunion in Indiana. Both singers were in the Midwest for the ZPL Birthday Bash, which was hosted by local radio station WZPL.
