'Outlander' Sam Heughan Loses Best Actor Award to 'Walking Dead' Star Andrew Lincoln

'Outlander' Sam Heughan Loses Best Actor Award to 'Walking Dead' Star Andrew Lincoln

It was a bitter-sweet success for Outlander in the 2017 Saturn Awards. The time travel-themed TV series won the Best Fantasy TV Series. However, lead stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe failed to take home the Best Actor and Best Actress awards respectively.

The Saturn Awards’ Best Actor prize went to The Walking Dead star Andrew Lincoln while Supergirl’s Melissa Benoist won the Best Actress award. This was Sam Heughan’s third Saturn nomination for playing the Scottish Highland warrior, Jamie Fraser. He has yet to win the highest recognition for an actor in the award-giving body.

Meanwhile, Balfe already has two Best Actress trophies from the Saturn Awards despite losing this year. She won the major recognition for an actress the past two years. Balfe played the role of Jamie’s wife, Claire, in Outlander.

Fans were expecting that Outlander and Game of Thrones would be the big winners in the 2017 Saturn Awards since the two are the hottest TV series at present. However, Outlander only won the Best Fantasy TV Series while GoT went home empty-handed. Last year, Sam Heughan’s Outlander also won Best Fantasy Series.

Outlander Season 3 Spoilers

The long wait for U.K. residents is finally over. The Starz hit series finally premiered in the United Kingdom, more than three years after it aired in the United States. Season 1 of Outlander aired for free on Friday on More4 in the U.K. Prior to the premiere in the country, the show was only available to U.K. viewers via subscription on Amazon Prime.

Rumor has it that the limit to U.K. screening was because the show allegedly encouraged rebellion to the England throne. Outlander has a sub-story about the Highlanders seeking Scottish independence. Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe will reprise their respective roles in Outlander Season 3 which is set for release in September.
