Poldark Season 3 actor Christian Brassington revealed what he has to do to perfectly portray his character in the BBC One drama. The star admitted that he consumes about 3500 calories each day in order to look like Reverend Osborne Whitworth.
Brassington’s dedication to his craft was highlighted when he decided to put on some pounds for a role. Brassington revealed that he had chosen to gain weight to be more in line with the character he is portraying in Poldark. He admitted that it was his idea and Poldark’s producers did not require him to put on some pounds.
“The Poldark producers didn’t demand that I put on the weight, but this character, when you read the description of him, he’s a big guy and he needs to be like that and I love that side of things. I like losing the weight, putting on the weight, and transforming the body for the part. I hope it works and I hope it looks good,” he told Radio Times.
Poldark Season 3 Actor Christian Brassington’s Diet Plan
In order to be the food-loving reverend, the 33-year-old English actor consumes 3,500 calories a day. Brassington said he started off trying to gain weight in a more healthy way. He packed his daily meals with eggs and protein shakes. He, however, realized that he was not doing it right.
“There was a morning when I had a six-egg omelet with a packet of spinach and a packet of mozzarella and with that a protein shake with powdered oats in it. I sat there at 9 o’clock in the morning thinking: ‘I am not going to be able to do the show feeling sick.’ I have to admit I moved away from that and lagers, burgers and ice cream came into it. It was pretty good. Lots of red meat!” the Elizabeth: The Golden Age actor revealed.
Reverend Osborne Whitworth in Poldark Season 3
The villainous character debuted in the recent episode. In the story, Cornwall’s new villain recently became a widow. He now has his eyes on Elizabeth’s (Heida Reed) governess cousin, Morwenna (Ellise Chappell).
Reverend Osborne was first portrayed by Christopher Biggins in the 1970s version of Poldark. At the time, Biggins was described as “the most hated man on television.” Brassington wants to make sure that he will not disappoint fans and Osborne will still be tagged as he was back in the 70s.
On whether or not his character will return in Season 4, Brassington refused to give details about his future plans. The Aidan Turner and Eleanor Tomlinson-starred Poldark Season 3 airs every Sundays at 9 PM on BBC One.
