The Princess Diana documentary, titled Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, is slated for release on Monday, 9 PM, on ITV, and it has revealed a lot about the late Princess of Wales and her children. The two princes, Prince William and Prince Harry, had opened up about the last conversations they had with their mother before she passed in an automobile accident in Paris.
Prince William’s Memories
The 35-year-old Prince William said that his last memory of his mother was a phone call from the Balmoral castle in Scotland where he and his brother Harry were playing around, and it has since left a mark on him.
Prince William told ITV, “At the time Harry and I were running around, minding our own business, playing with our cousins and having a very good time. Harry and I were in a desperate rush to say ‘Goodbye, see you later, can I go off?’ If I’d known what was going to happen I wouldn’t have been quite so blasé about it. That phone call sticks in my mind quite heavily.”
Prince Harry’s Memories
“I can’t necessarily remember what I said but all I do remember is regretting for the rest of my life how short the phone call was. If I’d known that that was the last time I was going to speak to my mother, the things I would have said to her,” said Prince Harry.
He goes on to say, “I have to deal with that for the rest of my life: not knowing that it was the last time I’d speak to my mum, how differently that conversation would have panned out if I’d had even the slightest inkling that her life was going to be taken that night.”
The 20th Anniversary of a Tragedy
Next month will mark the twentieth anniversary of her death in a tragic automobile accident in Paris on Aug. 31, 1997. Her funeral was watched by around 32.1 million people, and it marked one of the highest watched televised events in the UK. However, it wasn’t just in the UK that people watched, millions more watched worldwide. At that time, she was only 36-years-old, just as old as her son Prince William is today.
The Princess Diana documentaries
The two princes recall fond memories with their mother and even Prince William states that there aren’t many days that go by that she isn’t remembered. The documentary aims to show a different side to the first wife of Charles, Prince of Wales.
Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy will be made available for streaming on ITV Hub on July 24 at 9 PM. Prince Harry and Prince William had also filmed a second BBC Princess Diana documentary set to hit screens in August.
