Sam Claflin is more than willing to do a Fifty Shades of Grey movie and replace Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey. Claflin also has some actors in mind to join him in the film.
Though Fifty Shades of Grey was such a hit with Jamie Dornan at its helm, some fans would like to see a different version of the raunchy movie. Hunger Games star Sam Claflin thinks the same. He admitted that he has no problem playing a gay role. In fact, he admitted that he “desperately” wants to play gay roles in future movies.
During an interview with PrideSource, a gay fan fiction for Hunger Games actors was brought up to Claflin. Some fans think it is interesting to have Claflin and his co-stars, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson, in a gay Fifty Shades of Grey film. Claflin admitted that he didn’t realize that there are fans who would come up with what he called “amazingly imaginative ideas” like the gay Fifty Shades version.
The Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides star said he would happily do a Fifty Shades-style film with Chris and Liam Hemsworth. He said he loves the Hemsworth brothers. “I love the entire Hemsworth family. I say we get all of us involved and we do a Fifty Shades of Grey. We can make it a reality,” he teased.
Sam Claflin on Gay Roles
The 30-year-old actor admitted he did an audition for gay parts in the past. Unfortunately, he has yet to land any gay role. “I have auditioned for gay parts and not got them and desperately wanted them. It’s nothing I’m shying away from. It’s something I fully embrace.”
He added he was once offered a gay role in a TV series but he turned it down because it was not written well. “I’d be happy to do anything that was sort of good enough for me to kind of get my feet stuck in, like a meaty role, or an opportunity to work with a great director no matter what the story and no matter what the character,” said Claflin.
Can Sam Claflin Strip Off Clothes Like Jamie Dornan?
It seems like showing off some skin doesn’t bother Claflin anymore. He already flaunted his well-sculpted abs in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Me Before You. The star, however, admitted that he still feels nervous whenever he needs to undress on set.
Claflin explained that his anxiety in stripping off his clothes during filming is due to his experience on body shaming. “I remember doing one job when they literally made me pull my shirt up and were grabbing my fat and going ‘you need to lose a bit of weight.’ This other time they were slapping me. I felt like a piece of meat,” Claflin told The Sydney Morning Herald.
“I’m not saying it’s anywhere near as bad as what women go through but I, as an actor approaching each job, am insecure … and so nervous. I get really worked up to the point where I spend hours and hours in the gym and not eating for weeks to achieve what I think they’re going for,” he said. Claflin is currently starring in the new movie My Cousin Rachel alongside Rachel Weisz.
