Accuser called Bill Cosby more than 50 times after assault: defense

“Just getting started”, defense attorney Angela Agrusa told reporters as she left the Montgomery County Courthouse on Tuesday after she spent a couple of hours cross-examining Andrea Constand.Constand also testified that she returned to Cosby’s home after the alleged assault “with the hopes of asking him what the pills were that he gave her”.Bill Cosby arrived for the third day of his sexual assault trial accompanied by one of his co-stars from his 1970s movie run.Cosby’s wife, Camille, was not in court on Tuesday and has not appeared at any of his court hearings.(Eduardo Munoz Alvarez/Pool Photo via AP). He is facing three counts of aggravated indecent assault. Johnson and Constand are two of over sixty women who have accused Cosby of similar crimes.Constand’s cross-examination will continue when court resumes Wednesday. “I did not have the courage at the time to tell my family”, she said.”I’m not here for that. I wanted it to stop”. The former director of women’s basketball operations at Temple said Cosby placed her on a couch, touched her breasts, forced her to touch his penis and had other sexual contact with her.Ms Johnson, who worked for a talent agency representing Mr Cosby, alleges she woke up partially clothed in the comedian’s bed with him behind her, grunting, before he forced her to touch his genitals. She added: “I wanted it to stop”. “He was a trustee, he was an alumni there”.”I had a secret about the biggest celebrity in the world at that time, and it was just me”, Johnson said. She said she also feared what Cosby might do.Johnson testified that in 1996 Cosby gave her a pill to “relax” her when she went to his Los Angeles hotel room for career advice. Johnson and her story are a crucial part of the prosecution’s goal to establish that Cosby has a history of sexually abusing women, and it sounds like subsequent witnesses did a good job of backing up her account of the events.More than 50 women have accused Cosby – once beloved by American audiences as the dad in the long-running TV hit “The Cosby Show” – of sexually assaulting them in a series of attacks dating to the 1960s.Cosby said in a recent interview that he won’t testify in the trial. The defense says the relationship with Constand was consensual.Ms Constand has been barred from talking about her allegations for almost 12 years, following a successful civil case she brought against the comedian in 2006. She complied, although Cosby did not look at her, nor did he look at her throughout the testimony, even turning his head away at times.Tuesday marked the first time Constand had faced each other in court since 2005, when she was given a financial settlement after she filed a civil suit against Cosby. Constand claims that Cosby became her mentor and invited her into his home on multiple occasions.Constand is one of around 60 women who have accused Cosby of sexually violating them but the prosecution has gone ahead on just Constand’s allegations due to the statute of limitations passing for almost every other of those claims. Constand’s case is the only one in which Cosby has been charged.”He was a Temple friend, somebody I trusted”. She testified that’s when Cosby assaulted her.
