Bruno Mars kicks off BET Awards

Then again, you never know.Other strong competition Sunday include best female hip hop artist, where rivals Nicki Minaj and Remy Ma will go head-to-head.Saturday Night Live star Leslie Jones announced via Twitter that pop music icon Bruno Mars will help her kick off the festivities at Sunday’s BET Awards. The nominations include Video of the year, Album of the year, Coco-Cola Viewers’ Choice Award and also Best Male R&B/Pop Artist.Mars beat out Chris Brown, The Weeknd, Trey Songz and Usher for the award. Last year’s energy-filled performances included tributes to the late Prince and a memorable collaboration between Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar; no word yet on whether or not new mom-of-three Beyonce will make an appearance, but if so, it’ll most likely be as an audience member rather than performer (though she would be a showstopper nonetheless!).Mars, Migos and Solange are nominated for video of the year along with Beyonce and Big Sean.Stonebwoy earned his second nomination in the 2017 edition of the Black Entertainment Television Awards, following his first nomination and win in 2015.Stonebwoy who won the 2015 BET Award for Best International Act: Africa, has been nominated again this year in the same category.The show will also stream live on and will be made available on YouTube.Here’s a few things to know about the BET Awards, taking place on Sunday, June 25th.Trevor Noah, Jamie Foxx, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, Issa Rae and Yara Shahidi are among the presenters.Chance the Rapper won the best new artist award and will be presented the humanitarian award later in the ceremony. Former XXL Freshman Chance The Rapper will be honored tonight for giving back to the youth with his school program and the network will also award the year’s best male and female hip hop act.
