‘Top Gun’ sequel gets a director, and a release date

Fans of the Top Gun movies will be happy to hear that the much anticipated sequel has been given a tentative release date.Joseph – who previously worked with Tom on “Oblivion” – was favourite to take the director’s job after he recently met with the actor and impressed him with his vision for the film. “Maverick” was Cruise’s character’s nickname in the film in which he played Naval aviator Lt. Pete Mitchell. Plot details are being kept under wraps at this time. Original executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer is also set to return. And Top Gun is coming to theaters July 12, 2019. Although the title Top Gun: Maverick floated around briefly, the film is now without an official title.
