Boat Building Contest to Raise Alzheimer’s Awareness

Observed throughout the country, people, companies and others are encouraged to participate in group activities throughout the day (which is the longest of the year) that will raise awareness and, hopefully, funds for Alzheimer’s care and research. On the summer solstice, team up with the Alzheimer’s Association and select any activity you love or an activity loved by those affected – to help end Alzheimer’s. The Alzheimer’s Association is calling its initiative “The Longest Day”.Almost 17,000 South Dakotans have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, a form of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior.Wednesday, June 21, which is the nonprofit’s “Longest Day”.Previous year more than 10,000 people from nine countries took part in 3200 longest day tributes, raising almost $4 million.Donations to the Alzheimer’s Association were also accepted at the event. The event’s growth is a big deal, Brakke said, because there is a stigma associated with Alzheimer’s disease. If you cannot make it out to these events on Wednesday, you can participate on your own by going to www.alz.org/thelongestday and share what you love doing!
