Manhunt continues for armed and risky escapee from SC maximum-security prison

The South Carolina Department of Corrections is actively searching for an inmate who escaped Wednesday afternoon.Jimmy Causey, 46, escaped from Lieber Correctional Institution in Ridgeville just after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to corrections department officials.In 2005, Causey and another inmate escaped from the Broad River Correctional Institution near Columbia, by hiding inside a garbage truck. Authorities apprehended them after a three-day manhunt.Judie Trainer, the manager of the store that delivered the convicts’ pizza, told The State of Columbia, S.C., that when she arrived at the convicts’ motel room, the customers told her to put the pizza down and pick up their money from a table, orders apparently meant to help the pair avoid being seen.Ozmint, an attorney who now consults with prison systems across the country, told AP on Thursday that there are a number of reasons why even escape-prone inmates such as Causey typically must be returned to the general population.Both men were returned to prison.
