Trump says he’s under investigation, his lawyer says he isn’t

Sekulow cited congressional testimony by fired FBI director James B. Comey that he had told Trump on several occasions that Trump was not personally under investigations.Trump, he said, was merely responding to an anonymously sourced Washington Post report that said special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into links between Trump aides and Russian Federation had expanded to look at Trump’s firing of FBI director James Comey. The Post’s report indicated that Robert Mueller, who was already involved in the investigation into whether Russian Federation had a hand in the 2016 election, “is interviewing senior intelligence officials as part of a widening probe that now includes an examination of whether Trump attempted to obstruct justice”. In this case, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein had written to Trump to fire James Comey.”Well, no one’s notified us that he is so I can’t read people’s minds, but I can tell you this: We have not been notified that there’s an investigation of the president of the United States”, Sekulow says. “No confusion. The president is not under investigation”, Sekulow told Tapper. The result was that Rosenstein, a career prosecutor with no affiliation to Trump, unilaterally made a decision to appoint a special counsel and hired Mueller. In an NBC interview on May 11, Trump said “When I chose to [fire Comey], I said to myself, I said you know, this Russian Federation thing with Trump and Russian Federation is a made up story”.Cohen said the first official communication that a target is under investigation typically comes when prosecutors begin requesting documents and other evidence. He said, however, that Sekulow’s comments could mean the White House was taking the position that no investigation exists until Mueller’s team officially confirms it, disregarding media reports based on anonymous sourcing. “It’s that simple. The president is not under investigation“. “I don’t think that tweet helped him”, Gingrich said of the remark suggesting that Trump was being investigated. The tweet was widely interpreted as an acknowledgment that Trump was under legal and criminal scrutiny by Mueller. And while Sekulow and others, understandably, want to keep the focus on narrow legal questions, the greatest danger for Trump lies not in the realm of the courts, but in the world of politics.”The president’s pretty fired up about this”, said Sen. Senator Marco Rubio, Republican of Florida, pleaded Sunday for the president to give Mueller the room he needs to manage the inquiry. He said the “last thing we know is when he testified just a couple weeks back”.He spoke on ABC’s “This Week”. He has already been subpoenaed by the House intelligence committee. Angus King (I-Maine).”The MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN agenda is doing very well despite the distraction of the Witch Hunt. There’s a lot of information yet to go”.”It was a striking show of solidarity between two men who a year ago had been fierce presidential rivals – who had upbraided each other in deeply personal terms during one of the ugliest stretches of the Republican primary”, the Washington Post reported on Friday.
