Captain America may don a new look in Avengers: Infinity War—that is if recent posts among Marvel fans are to be believed. As some netizens point out, actor Chris Evans — who portrays Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America himself, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) — continues to sport his beard and growing locks whilst in the middle of filming for Infinity War.
With this into account, some fans now hope that this may be his character’s new look in the upcoming Avengers flick. But how would this work out into the story, if it is even relevant to any degree?
Captain America and His New Look For Avengers: Infinity War
A new photo of Evans shows him sporting longer hair and a beard. Though the actor is no stranger to donning facial hair anyway, his longer locks are something new to fans. Some argue that he may be preparing for a role in another movie. However, others speculate that this new look of Evans may actually be for Infinity War.
How does this new look of Cap fit into the story, though? Some netizens theorize that the longer mane and facial hair are part of Cap’s efforts to blend in with the crowd and become inconspicuous. To recall, viewers last saw Steve at the end of 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, reeling in the aftermath of his fight against Tony Stark and the Accords. Steve managed to break his companions out of their prisons, and it is assumed (as per Civil War’s post-credits scene) that he and his group remain in hiding in Wakanda.
How these events will tie in to Infinity War remains unknown. However, some fans believe — as per recent sightings of Evans — that the Avengers sequel will see Steve undercover. This may thus explain his alleged “new look.”
But, one netizen points out that this new image of Evans is not, in fact, for Infinity War. As Redditor CueTheLaughTrack writes, “This photo was taken a few days ago while Chris Evans started filming the movie Red Sea Diving Resort.” CueTheLaughTrack adds that the possibility of Steve having facial hair in Infinity War still seems likely, but, this new photo of Evans may not pertain to his filming for the upcoming Avengers movie.
Other Infinity War Updates
In other Infinity War news, previous reports reveal that the film and its still-untitled sequel may mark the end for some of the superheroes in the MCU. This is as per Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige’s remarks in which he shares that the Infinity War saga will mark the end for some characters.
This is also in line with some of the MCU actors’ respective contracts with Marvel. The likes of Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), and Evans himself are at the tail end of their Marvel contracts. As such, Infinity War and its sequel may see the end for their characters in the MCU.
