‘Outlander’ Star Sam Heughan Talks About His New Movie with Mila Kunis, Kate McKinnon

Outlander star Sam Heughan is not taking a break though the Starz hit show wrapped filming for Season 3. Heughan is currently busy working on a new movie, in which he has to step out of his kilt for a while and slip in some modern clothes.

He confirmed that he had been cast for the lead role in The Spy Who Dumped Me movie alongside Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon. During a Twitter Q&A session, a fan asked Heughan what it is like to work alongside McKinnon. “She’s SO cool and funny! What a pro,” he replied.

The Spy Who Dumped Me follows the life of best friends Audrey (Kunis) and Morgan (McKinnon). Audrey’s ex-boyfriend, played by Heughan, will show up at the girls’ apartment with a squad of deadly assassins on his trail. The girls will soon find themselves entangled in an international conspiracy when they found out that Heughan’s character is actually a spy.

Comedian Hasan Minhaj will play Topher Duffer, a CIA operative that is trying to track down Audrey and Morgan after they go on the run. Susanna Fogel will direct and co-wrote the script with David Iserson.

Sam Heughan Doing Stunts and Different Accent

Outlander fans are familiar with Heughan having a Scottish accent. In his forthcoming movie, he will be heard with a different accent. Sam Heughan revealed that he would be speaking in Hungarian in the project. The Lionsgate movie is the first lead role for Heughan in a major Hollywood feature film.

The 37-year-old actor was also asked if he will be performing stunts in the upcoming action/comedy flick. He did not answer directly but hinted that there would be some action scenes in the movie. “It’s an ‘action comedy!!! I love stunts…” he wrote. Heughan likewise confirmed that he did suffer some few bruises while on set. “Nothing major…. Risky business though!” he replied to a fan.

The Spy Who Dumped Me will hit theaters on July 6, 2018. Meanwhile, Outlander Season 3 will not premiere until September. For the meantime, the series’ fans can catch their favorite cast members at the San Diego Comic-Con 2017 later this month.

Heughan answered questions from fans during his Twitter Q&A session to celebrate the anniversary of him being cast as Jamie Fraser in Outlander. “I was overjoyed and didn’t realize what a wonderful adventure it’d be. So so lucky,” he wrote, remembering the day.

Sam Heughan shot to fame in the time-travelled theme series as the dashing Scotish Highland warrior Jamie Fraser who falls in love with a nurse, Claire (Caitriona Balfe), from the future. Season 3 will pick up with Jamie and Claire still separated by a couple of centuries. Eventually, Claire will make her way back to the 18th century and reunite with her husband, Jamie.
