Eminem New Album 2017: Dr Dre Recalls Recording 'My Name Is'

While hip-hop enthusiasts wait for the Eminem new album 2017, the rapper and his comrade, Dr. Dre, recalled the first time they ever met as well as telling the story behind the recording of his solo single, My Name Is. The footage of the rap pair was featured in the HBO documentary, The Defiant Ones, which already concluded in the United States.

Eminem and Dr. Dre’s collaboration was considered one of the most prolific partnerships in the history of rap. Both made masterpieces like The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show. All started with a life-changing meeting that resulted to one of the rapper’s biggest hits.

Eminem and Dr. Dre Recall First Meeting and Track

In a new clip from Wednesday night’s final episode of The Defiant Ones, both of the rap legends reminisced the first time they met. Eminem revealed that he was starstruck by the producer, whom he called “one of my biggest influences ever in life.”

Dr. Dre, on the other hand, revealed that he had only met the then-unknown rapper back in 1998 when Mathers stepped up to the microphone and began spitting the initial lyrics for the track. He recalled their initial recording sessions at his home studio. He also admitted that it was not just Em’s talent which left him stunned but also his bright fashion style.

The producer said, “Eminem comes in, in this bright yellow f****** sweatsuit – hoodie, pants, everything. It’s bright f****** yellow and I’m like, ‘Wow.’” He then remembered how they put together My Name Is, and an archived video of the two in Dre’s home studio was shown. He divulged that they came up with the iconic track during their first few minutes in the studio.

Dre explained, “I had no idea he was a white guy. I didn’t find that out until a few days later. And I was just like ‘What the fuck is this? I really need to meet this guy.’ The first thing that we did was ‘My Name Is.’ I had already prepared a sample that I thought he would sound great on.”

He went on to recall, “Immediately after I put it on he just went ‘Hi, my name is’… When I heard he was going to start his own label, I thought it was an amazing idea. I was excited to see what they were going to be able to do with it.”

Dr. Dre Seriously Working on Eminem New Album 2017

After the duo met up and created the greatest hit of the rapper, their history together did not stop there. It was recently revealed that the two are working on the Eminem new album 2017. The Defiant Ones director Allen Hughes seemed to give hope to fans when he hinted that Dr. Dre will be producing Mathers’ new music.

Hughes teased, “Dre still records. People don’t know this: Dre records every day. Literally, he’s in there recording songs every day. He’s like Picasso in that way. He’s always painting. Right now he’s producing, in the 11th hour, a track for Eminem’s latest album. So Dre’s still real active in music, you know?” His remarks seemed to suggest that Em’s new record is almost done and under deadline.
