Marcel Keizer named new Ajax manager on two-year deal

Keizer started his playing career at Ajax after coming through the club’s youth academy and made four first-team appearances before leaving his boyhood club in 1989.Ajax have appointed Marcel Keizer as their new head coach on a two-year deal with the option of a third season. He will soon be signing a contract which will take effect on July 1, 2017, for two years, until June 30, 2019.But Ajax said it believed Keizer to be the right man for the job.Keizer takes charge of Ajax after they finished second in the Eredivisie and reached the Europa League final, where they were beaten 2-0 by Manchester United. The 48-year-old will step up from his role in charge of the reserve team, Jong Ajax, to replace Peter Bosz, who joined Borussia Dortmund last week.”The meetings we had were very positive, and I feel a lot of trust from the organisation”. I had set myself up to get a good result in the Jupiler League next season with Jong Ajax, but in football, it may suddenly be different.Keizer added: “This is a great opportunity which I will seize with both hands”.The club’s General Manager Edwin van der Sar was delighted and has expressed his views in the statement on promoting Keizer. I’m now on holiday but will be proud to put my signature to the new contract soon.
