Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers
Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant recently stated that Kyrie Irving is a better player than Allen Iverson. His statements started a debate among fans and even reached the world of video games. NBA 2K18 news featured a “super fan” creating a video of a matchup between “Uncle Drew” and “The Answer.”
“Kyrie is better than AI to me,” said the Golden State star on The Bill Simmons Podcast recently. “I’m going from, like, skill for skill I was telling some of my friends after Game 2, I was like, Kyrie, he just makes you happy when you watch him play.
“You just smile when you watch him play, because for somebody to be that skilled, you know he had to work tirelessly at it. The stuff he has in his package is next-level stuff that you can try to teach your kids to do it, but you’ll never be able to do it.”
NBA 2K18 news: KD doesn’t want any problem with Allen Iverson
Kevin Durant made his “Kyrie is better” remarks after Simmons first gave his opinion on the two guards. Simmons thinks Irving has more ways to score than any point guard he has ever seen. He also said that Irving is the better shooter and is taller than Iverson. After hearing Durant’s opinion, Simmons laughed and the Warriors superstar immediately defended his claims.
“We might have to cut that out — I don’t want no problems with AI,” Durant said. “Y’all might have to cut that one. I don’t want that to get out. I’m just saying I feel like Kyrie got more skill.”
NBA 2K18 News: Kyrie Irving vs Allen Iverson
Some NBA fans disagree with KD’s statement that Kyrie Irving is better than Allen Iverson. It’s hard to make comparisons without seeing both players go one-on-one or play in the same era. An NBA “super fan” named Shady00018 created a video showcasing Irving and NBA 2K legend Iverson. The video of Kyrie Irving and Allen Iverson may be viewed below.
Shady00018 agreed that Irving has a better handle and shooting but he believes Iverson is still the better player. “Uncle Drew” can’t carry a team alone in the NBA Finals unlike Iverson, who did it with the Philadelphia 76ers. During that time, Iverson was the lone offensive player of the Sixers where they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2001 NBA Finals.
Meanwhile, Irving and the Cleveland Cavaliers only managed to reach the NBA Finals when LeBron James returned in 2014. As Cavs’ lone superstar, Irving was even unable to help them earn a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. However, there is no doubt that his clutch three-pointer in Game 7 of the NBA Finals 2016 helped the Cavaliers capture their first NBA championship title.
