Top NBA Draft 2017 prospect Markelle Fultz has already signed a deal with Nike. However, it is being reported that the 19-year-old entertained the prospect of signing with Big Baller Brand.
Cindy Boren and Kent Babb, Washington Post reporters, revealed an interesting conversation between Fultz and his trainer, Keith Williams, on Monday. The prospect from Upper Marlboro, Maryland discussed the idea of signing with fellow draft prospect Lonzo Ball and Big Baller Brand. “I was thinking about it. But, then I would make him money, though,” Fultz said. However, Williams was then heard saying that BBB may not have money to sign anybody.
Fultz signing with Nike a major loss for Under Armour
Boren and Babb stressed on the fact that Markelle Fultz signing with Nike was more of a loss for Under Armour than BBB. This is because Fultz is from the Washington D.C. area–near Under Armour’s Baltimore headquarters. He also played for an AAU team affiliated with Under Armour.
Despite a tempting offer from BBB, Fultz decided to sign with Nike. Hence, he passed on the opportunity to represent Big Baller Brand and the nearly $500 shoes being sold as Ball heads to the NBA.
It has to be noted that Ball earlier said that he already feels like a better player than Fultz. Speaking to Boren and Babb, the Washington guard mentioned: “We just don’t talk about what we’re going to do.”
Philadelphia 76ers likely to pick up Fultz
Markelle Fultz is all ready to do his talking on the court with Nike. It is likely that he will get picked up by the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA Draft 2017. On Monday, the Boston Celtics confirmed they traded the top overall pick to Philadelphia in exchange for the No. 3 pick and future draft considerations. This has cleared the way for the Sixers to take Fultz and form a young core of the rookie, Ben Simmons, Dario Saric, and Joel Embiid.
Fultz is 6-ft-4 and weighs 195 pounds. He has a wingspan of 6-ft-10 and has a .413 3PT%. He averages 23.2 PPG, 5.9 APG, and 5.7 RPG. The 19-year-old has a player efficiency rating of 28.3 and has 7.76 estimated wins added under his name.
The point guard is projected 100% to be selected No. 1 overall in the NBA Draft 2017. If the young core of Simmons, Saric, Embiid, and Fultz does take Philadelphia to the playoffs, Fultz will be leading the way in Nike shoes instead of Big Baller Brand.
