Rory McIlroy destroys fellow golfer in Twitter spat

Pro golfer Steve Elkington tweeted that Rory McIlroy must be “so bored playing golf” since Tiger Woods isn’t now playing.Rory McIlroy has hit back at a suggestion by Steve Elkington that he was “bored” with golf after he missed the cut at the US Open for the second year in succession. It was only his sixth competitive start of the year, and despite getting a birdie at four of the last six holes, he managed just one-under par to come in at 71 on his second go – finishing four shots below the cut.Elkington claimed Supermac was likely satisfied with his four Major wins and “100 mill in the bank”, saying that was probably the benchmark in the post-Tiger Woods era.McIlroy responded to the comment by sending a screenshot of his career accomplishments, noting that Elk underestimated his career earnings by half. The spat continued with Elkington insisting he “new” McIlroy was interested only in money, unlike 18-time Major champion Jack Nicklaus.”Even though it’s very disappointing to not be here on the weekend, I think these last two rounds will serve me well going into the summer”. There is still enough time left for McIlroy to turn 2017 into a successful year, but these two months will dictate everything.Rory McIlroy may have missed the cut at Erin Hills, but he’s leaving Wisconsin a victor. But then, Erin Hills, this 11-year-old layout, has not staged your average US Open and has taken many by surprise. “And I know if I go out and play the golf I’m capable of, good things should happen”.McIlroy has revealed that he intends to play in next week’s Travelers Championship and the Irish Open, Scottish Open and Open Championship in successive weeks in July.
