SIT hears director Puri Jagannath script

With Puri being the first of 12 Tollywood personalities to be summoned by the excise department for their alleged links with drug peddlers, his marathon quizzing had many in the two Telugu speaking states glued to TV.Charmee Kaur, the best friend of Puri Jagannadh, the co-founder of puri-Connects, has also received notice from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Excise department and she has to present before the SIT on 20th July. “The officials posed several questions and I replied”. It may be mentioned that Puri had been summoned by the excise enforcement directorate officials for questioning in the drugs case.The drug racket was busted in the city earlier this month. “I told the SIT officials that I do not know Calvin and I have never met him”.The questioning continued after lunch break, causing anxiety among the filmmaker’s family members. They are probing the links of some Tollywood personalities with the drug racket.As they interrogated key suspect Calvin, the cops stumbled upon a few names in the Telugu film industry, creating a flutter. Excise Enforcement director Akun Sabharwal, who is heading the probe, said the film personalities were served notice as their contact numbers were found in the call data of Calvin Mascraenhas, said to be the kingpin of the racket. Actor Subba Raju, cinematographer Syam K Naidu, actor Ravi Teja, art director Chinna, actor Navdeep, actor Tarun are scheduled to be questioned on July 22,23,24,25,26 and 27 respectively.However, the director uploaded a video to his twitter account at 11.16 pm on Wednesday in which he denied having done anything illegal, including using drugs. Hence notices were also sent to her. Police are trying to give the notices to her personally too.The focus of the investigation will be on whether they (to whom the notices were issued) were drug users, peddlers or suppliers, the official had said. The SIT has so far arrested 13 accused, including U.S. citizen Dundu Anish, an aerospace engineer who had worked with the NASA, and seven B. Tech graduates, most of whom were working for multi-national companies. It is also said Puri has been hosting parties at his house.
