BMW X3 makes global debut – Details, Specs, Photos, Videos

The interior isn’t much different from what you’d find on any other new BMW model. The M40i will be the first M-Sport variant of the X3, capable of 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and a 250km/h top speed.In the United States, the base-model X3 receives BMW’s new 2.0-liter four-cylinder, which makes 248 hp in this application, paired to an eight-speed automatic.Built on the new CLAR Platform (the same as the 5 Series), the new X3 grows in size but still manages to shed up to 55kgs from its weight, and the X3 now looks even more like a baby X5, with its new kidney grill and squared-off bonnet, and more curves than before.BMW’s Hong Kong webpage also notes the X3 xDrive20d and xDrive30d diesel models. The new model will be available in XLine, M Sport and Luxury Line trim variants. The optional BMW Gesture Control, which debuted on the current BMW 7 Series, adds a unique way to interface with the X3.The 2018 BMW X3 is paving the way (or rather, heading off the beaten path) for a future where most BMW-badged vehicles are crossovers. 0-60 miles per hour takes 6.0-seconds in the xDrive30i, on its way to a top speed of 130 miles per hour.Interested in buying a BMW X3? The auto can be locked and unlocked using the optional BMW Display Key found on the BMW 5 Series and 7 Series.The M40i will apparently come with ab 3.0 litre straight six engine with 355 horsepower and 500Nm of of torque. A petrol-electric hybrid badged the X3 xDrive40e is also expected further down the line, as is a fully-electric X3e to take on the Tesla Model X and Jaguar E-Pace. The familiar BMW cabin does have a few aces up its sleeve over its predecessor as now there’s a three-zone climate control system and individually adjustable angle for the rear 40:20:40 split/folding rear seats.For 2017, BMW dropped its previous six-cylinder-powered X4, the xDrive35i, to focus attention on the more powerful and more special M40i. It’s the same story with cargo capacity – regular, seats-up volume is bumped up by 1.1 cubic-feet to 28.7 cubic-feet, but capacity with seats folded flat is decreased by 0.6 cubic-feet. Wheel sizes now start at 18 inches rather than 17 and can be opted up to 21. Both models are mated exclusively to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. And optional M Sport Brakes will help it stop like one. A larger panoramic moonroof, new full-color heads up display, updated three-spoke steering wheel, and ventilated front seats all differentiate the new X3 from the outgoing model.
