‘Rick and Morty’ Comics on Sale on July 5, Morty and Mermaid Morty Escapes Grandfather

Ahead of the Season 3 premiere, Rick and Morty comics will go on sale this week. In the upcoming comics edition, Morty and a mermaid version of him are escaping grandfather Rick.

The Rick and Morty comics are expected to be hilarious like the TV series. In the first edition, Morty will try to escape his maniacal grandfather who has collected some weird Mortys to fight for him. Morty and Mermaid Morty are on the run, but they are also running out of food and water. Will they survive or not?

Oni Press posted the cover of Rick And Morty: Pocket Like You Stole It #1 which shows Rick’s array of weird Mortys. Nerdist also shared the second cover which shows Morty climbing some Tetris pieces, which is a homage to the popular Game Boy game. See cover photo below.

Rick and Morty Comics Inspiration

The comics version of the Adult Swim’s hit series is inspired by Rick And Morty: Pocket Mortys. It is a mobile game that riffs on the Pokémon concept. In Pocket Mortys, alternate universe versions of Morty are forced to fight each other. A gamer will pretend to be Rick who gets to catch, train, control, and make all of the weird alternate universe Mortys  fight each other. Basically, the gameplay will depend on the characters a player collects during his journey.

The Rick and Morty comics were penned by Tini Howard with art by Marc Ellerby and colors by Katy Farina. It will be released by Oni Press on Wednesday. The Pocket Mortys game, on the other hand, is available for download on iTunes and Android Apps on Google Play.

Rick and Morty Season 3 Premiere Date

Adult Swim finally confirmed that the third installment of Rick and Morty would come back by the end of the month. During a two-hour live-streaming event last week, creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland announced the return of the series. They also released a trailer for the upcoming season. Watch the teaser below.

The Season 3 announcement came days after Harmon went on a Twitter rant about why the show is taking so long to return. There have been rumors that Season 3 delay was caused by a feud between Harmon and Roiland. The former had denied the speculations, saying he and Roiland never fought.

The show aired the Season 2 finale in October 2015. Season 3’s Episode 1 was earlier dropped on April Fools’ Day. The 10-episode Rick and Morty Season 3 will kick off at 11:30 PM on July 30.
