Vauxhall reveals high-performance Insignia GSi

The stylistic enhancements include redesigned sporty bumpers with bigger air intakes, 20-inch wheels, a rear spoiler, red brake calipers, and more pronounced side skirts – all these should make it easy to spot it among the standard five-door Insignia Grand Sport versions. The GSi also has its own two specifically developed leather upholsteries featuring the GSi emblem – the model is set to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The 257bhp 2.0 litre turbo delivers official economy of 32.8mpg, although Vauxhall seem disinclined to reveal performance figures just yet.Inside the auto, new full-leather AGR-certified sports seats have been developed to increase comfort and support for passengers and the driver. The Vauxhall Insignia GSi is the latest edition to Vauxhall’s “Posh” Insignia range, with 257bhp and 4WD to create a performance Insignia. And this, the Vauxhall Insignia GSi, is the performance version of the Insignia, although it only boasts 257bhp from its new 2.0 litre four-cylinder petrol turbo, less than half of what Vauxhall’s real performance vehicle – the VXR8 GTS-R – delivers.A leather steering wheel, aluminium pedals are also included in the interior upgrade.Power output of the new vehicle is some 70hp less than the previous Insignia VXR performance model, but the GSi is said to be able to lap the Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany – regarded as today’s performance auto barometer – faster than the VXR.The auto gets three driving modes – Tour, Sport and GSi-exclusive Competition mode. There’s no word on how much the auto will cost or when it will go on sale, but we expect a price tag of at least £30,000 and that sales will start not long after the vehicle is shown at Frankfurt in September.
