McDonald’s recently brought back the Mulan Szechuan sauce for Rick and Morty Season 3, ending the tireless quest of creator Justin Roiland to get more of the long-discontinued promotional product. Fans of the series could not help but express their excitement over the news.
McDonald’s Mulan Szechuan Sauce Is Back!
Viewers are enjoying the new episodes of the animated sitcom, after having to wait nearly four whole months after the show’s debut sent the internet into meltdown. The series, which follows the adventure of the genius scientist Rick Sanchez and his easily-led grandson Morty, made a bunch of references to McDonald’s Mulan Szechuan sauce in the first episode of Season 3.
With such tease, fans hope that the fast food chain will bring back the dipping sauce on the market. Many thought the gravy was long gone and out of production – until series creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon filled the Season 3 debut with mentions to the fabled accompaniment.
Afterward, sachets of the dipping sauce were sold for $14K on eBay and prompted the creators to joke that they’re in discussion with McDonald’s. Social media users went into a frenzy when the producers asked the corporation about getting on board for the second time in producing the highly-anticipated paste.
McDonald’s responded in a way that may hint they are ready for a Mulan Szechuan sauce remake. The conversation between the creators and the corporation led to a wave of nostalgia among fans, resulting to a petition to bring back the gravy. The plea with thousands of signatures led to one of the fast food chain’s chefs to re-examine the situation.

Chef Mike wrote in a note, “We finally did it. It took months, but we’ve finally brought back some Szechuan Sauce.” He added, “We wish we could have brought more sauce through, but we couldn’t risk keeping a portal like that open.”
McDonald’s also posted an image of three other bottles of Mulan Szechuan sauce, with the caption: “SOS 073017 2130EST TWTR 3x.5GAL,” referencing the Rick and Morty’s return date to Adult Swim. It is currently unknown if the corporation will bring back the McNugget delicacy, but Chef Mike did note that a “few lucky fans will also get to experience the glory.”
