Local runners register top-10 finishes at USATF Outdoors

North Dakota State junior Alyssa Olin took sixth place in the javelin at the USA Track & Field Championships on Thursday evening. Lipsey will wrap up the day by running in the semifinal round of the women’s 800 meters at 10:28 p.m. Day 2 at the USATF Championships will air live on NBC Sports Network from 9:30-11:30 p.m. CT.After transitioning to the 800m this season, Kopp collected second team All-America accolades at the NCAA Outdoor Championships earlier in June and went on to garner another All-America honor as a member of the 4x400m relay.While earning top-three finishes at the USATF Championships, both Jackson and Wales remain short of the qualifying standard to join Team USA at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in London in August.Austin Corley will compete at the USATF Outdoor Championships in Sacramento, Calif., while Kendra Henry will compete on the Junior Championship side in the Heptathlon this week.Qualifiers at the USATF Championships will compete at the IAAF World Championships this summer.Four other Aggies in Maia Garren (women’s shot put and hammer), Darren Harman (5,000 meters), LeAnn Larkin (1,500 and 3,000 meters) and Bailee Parker (3,000 and 5,000 meters) will all be competing at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships, which also began Thursday at Hornet Stadium. She’ll be competing in a field of 16 top amateur long jumpers from around the United States. Her time in the 3,000m ranks fifth all-time in school history.All times Mountain and subject to change.
