A Jordanian man has been shot to death and an Israeli man was wounded in a violent incident at the Israeli embassy in Amman, according to reports.During a quarrel between the two for unknown reasons, the Jordanian sustained two gunshots in the shoulder and the Israeli was stabbed in the chest, a source told Al Jazeera. The Hala Akhbar site said the incident also included a stabbing.”An initial investigation indicated that three people were wounded, one an Israeli who was taken to hospital”, it said, adding that two Jordanians were wounded and one later died of his injuries. In their statement, the Jordanian police said that after the attack they had sealed the heavily protected embassy in an affluent part of the capital and deployed dozens of anti-terrorism gendarmie forces.Israel’s foreign ministry had no immediate comment. On Friday, thousands of Jordanians protested in Amman against Israel over the installation of metal detectors at a site sacred to both Muslims and Jews in Jerusalem. There has been no official confirmation from authorities but reports in Jordanian media suggest that a man was killed and an Israeli injured following an exchange of gunfire.Israel has in the past given repeated assurances that it understands Jordan’s concerns and does not seek to alter the status quo in the Muslim holy sites of Jerusalem.
