Clashes renew in East Jerusalem over Al-Aqsa row

(Web Desk) – The latest series of clashes between the Israeli police and the Palestinians has resulted in unrest in Jerusalem following recent Israeli security measures including the installation of metal detectors at the holy site.The Arab League has strongly condemned Israel’s new restrictive measures at al-Aqsa Mosque in the Old City of the occupied Jerusalem al-Quds, stressing that the Tel Aviv regime is “playing with fire” at the highly sensitive sacred site.Israeli officials signalled they may be open to changing the measures at the Haram al-Sharif mosque compound, known to Jews as the Temple Mount, after metal detectors were installed at entrances following an attack that killed two policemen.The statement came after two Palestinian teenagers succumbed to injuries they sustained during clashes in protest at Israel’s imposition of restrictive measures at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound, including the installment of metal detectors and cameras, following a deadly shooting attack more than a week ago.Israeli police stormed a Jerusalem hospital treating dozens of victims of clashes on Friday, forcing workers to leave as they reportedly searched for injured protesters to arrest.Some prisoners have been held in administrative detention for up to 11 years without any charges brought against them.Israeli forces fire tear gas at Palestinian worshippers in Ras al-Amud, East Jerusalem, July 21, 2017.
