Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner Met with Kremlin-Linked Lawyer

Donald Trump Jr., the president’s oldest son, met with a Russian lawyer with links to the Kremlin at the family’s signature Tower in New York in June of previous year, shortly after his father had sewn up the Republican nomination, The New York Times reported Saturday citing government records.Kushner, and Trump’s campaign chairman at the time, Paul Manafort, met with the lawyer at Trump tower on June 9, 2016. It is also the first time that his son Donald Trump known to have been involved in such a meeting.Representatives of Donald Trump Jr. and Mr. Kushner confirmed the meeting after The Times approached them with information about it. The report, according to the newspaper, was confirmed by representatives of Donald Jr. and Kushner. Mr. Kushner has submitted additional updates and included, out of an abundance of caution, this meeting with a Russian person, which he briefly attended at the request of his brother-in-law Donald Trump Jr. Trump Jr. said in a statement to the Times that “it was not a campaign issue at the time and there was no follow-up”.”I asked Jared and Paul to stop by”, he said. Russian President Vladimir Putin was so enraged by the law that he retaliated by halting American adoptions of Russian children. The Times said the Russian lawyer at the meeting, Natalia Veselnitskaya, is known for campaigning against a USA law that blacklists suspected Russian human rights abusers.USA media regularly report, usually citing unnamed sources, about the contacts Trump’s election campaign members with Russian officials and businessmen.Kushner was forced to file a revised form after The Times revealed that he had failed to disclose meetings with the Russian ambassador to the USA and the head of a Russian state bank. He is one of several people linked to the Trump campaign who are under scrutiny by a special counsel and congressional committees investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 campaign and potential coordination with Trump associates. The news comes amid multiple investigations into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian officials during the 2016 election. Russian Federation has repeatedly denied the claims.Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told reporters at a summit of leaders of the Group of 20 major economies in Hamburg that Trump had “positive chemistry” with Putin during the meeting, which lasted some two hours and 15 minutes.”I can’t imagine that she brought up anything during the Trump Tower meeting other than the Magnitsky Act”, said Browder, who recalled Veselnitskaya defending her Russian clients against money-laundering allegations made by the US government connected to a tax fraud that Magnitsky uncovered. In retaliation, Moscow barred Americans from adopting Russian children. In March, the Associated Press reported Manafort aided a Russian billionaire by developing a plan to “greatly benefit” off of Putin’s government. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking of alleged Russian intervention in the elections in the US, France and Germany, said that there are no facts confirming this.Research, said the Times, shows Veselnitskaya to be a “formidable operator with a history of pushing the Kremlin’s agenda”.
