Last day of the Bill Cosby sex assault trial

Bill Cosby’s publicist speaks out.More than 60 women have made allegations of sexual assault against Cosby, with the alleged attacks spanning a timeline from the 1960s to as recently as 2008.Cosby’s trial started June 5 in Norristown, Pennsylvania.Legal experts had always said the he-said, she-said nature of the case was always going to be hard to prove in court, not least because it happened so long ago and due to a lack of physical evidence. It says the trial has “given a voice to the many victims who felt powerless and silenced”. Even so, they have been unable to decide the fate of the 79-year-old Cosby. The comedian says that he gave Constand Benadryl and insists that their encounter was consensual. On Thursday, after having listened to testimony for six days, the jury was reportedly deadlocked following 30 hours of deliberations.Cindra Ladd, in a statement issued through her spokesman, said she takes “comfort knowing that Bill Cosby’s life is now, and forever will be, a living hell”.Count 1 alleges that Cosby didn’t have consent when he penetrated Constand’s genitals with his fingers. After the mistrial, Constand doled out hugs to her mother, prosecutors and some of the other women who say the TV star drugged and abused them. Given the manner in which she was dismissed by the previous district attorney, she had no option but to file a civil suit. It appears that the judge will have the jury working until they reach a decision. The accuser, Andrea Constand, testified that Cosby drugged and assaulted her in his home in 2004.The actor’s wife of 53 years called District Attorney Kevin Steele “heinously and exploitatively ambitious” in a statement released after the court adjourned. All told, the deliberations, which began on Monday, have lasted approximately 52 hours – longer than the trial testimony. What’s next for the man once known as “America’s Dad” after a judge declared a mistrial in the aggravated indecent assault case against Bill Cosby?“Mr. Cosby’s power is back – it’s back”.Cosby’s wife, Camille Cosby, slammed prosecutors for bringing the case to court. He called Constand a liar and said inconsistencies in her statements to police should cause reasonable doubt. Over two visits, she said, he touched her “without warning” and tried to unbutton her trousers before she stopped him. It was the only criminal case stemming from dozens of accusations of sexual misconduct – all of which Cosby denies. They told Judge Steven O’Neill on the fourth day that they could not reach a unanimous verdict.Allred also addressed the media after the mistrial was declared.Constand is ready to go to trial again, said her lawyer, Dolores Troiani.Bill Cosby leaves the Montgomery County Courthouse during his sexual assault trial, Friday, June 16, 2017, in Norristown, Pa. Prosecutors of the most recent Bill Cosby case have stated that they will retry the case.”I think the jury will be better served if they can hear from the other accusers and then they can make that decision as to whether or not they would convict and whether an alleged victim was in the position to consent or was incapacitated by drugs”. Lets walk together as one family to solve our differences peacefully, clearly we must work toward creating a peaceful egalitarian society.
