‘Moonlight’ star Mahershala Ali in early talks to join ‘True Detective 3′

“True Detective” hasn’t officially been renewed for season 3 on HBO but an Oscar winning actor is in talks to land a starring role in the series created by Nic Pizzolatto.It aired in 2015 and starred Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, and Rachel McAdams.Who they get behind the camera for season three is going to be very important, but so far the early decisions have got us feeling optimistic.HBO’s head of programming Casey Bloys last summer called the project “a valuable franchise” and acknowledged the network was still “open to another season”, assuring fans “it’s not dead”. Perhaps being able to sign a big star like Mahershala Ali will bring back the interest the show needs to return for another season? HBO declined comment, The Hollywood Reporter said.As for plot and the like, there isn’t a screed of information to be found. Showrunner / creator Nic Pizzolatto is now working on the screenplay for the new season and is being helped along the process by David Milch, who created NYPD Blue, Deadwood, Hill Street Blues and is kind of a legend in TV writing.
