New roller coaster coming for Harry Potter theme park

A new Harry Potter-themed roller coaster is coming to Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Universal announced Monday. “The new attraction will be one of the most highly-themed coaster experiences we’ve created”, the company writes. We’re permanently closing Dragon Challenge on September 5 to make way for this all-new ride.Since the park is staying tight-lipped about the theme of the ride, that leaves fans plenty of room to speculate.Entertainment Weekly poses a few options: perhaps the Shrieking Shack, with time travel as a key part of the experience, or perhaps a Forbidden Forest adventure featuring Newt Scamander of Fantastic Beasts.Likewise, overnight guests will also be able to sleep at a Star Wars-themed resort at Walt Disney World in Florida, a Marvel-themed hotel at Disneyland Paris, and a Mediterranean-themed luxury Riviera Resort.”This all-new thrill ride will take you deeper into J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, where you will encounter some of your favorite characters and creatures”. Officials said that more details will be released to the public in the future.Hogsmeade doesn’t exactly have much more action going for it, barring a drunken stumble through The Three Broomsticks or the beginning stages of Harry’s return for the Battle of Hogwarts (which would be the most horrifying family ride).Unfortunately two incidents involving riders and loose objects during the summer 2011 forced Universal to suspect the dueling aspect of the ride. By 2019, this brand-new ride will take visitors to places they have never seen and deliver the next generation of thrill ride they have longed for. Since Dragon Challenge lags behind in popularity among The Wizarding World attractions its no surprise that Universal will replace it with something new.The Dragon Challenge was a re-incarnation of Dueling Dragons, one of the original rides from Islands of Adventures’ grand opening in 1999.
