Consuming white bread can make you fat

NEW YORK: According to the latest study, regular consumption of white bread can make you obese. The research revealed that those people who frequently consume white bread are 40% more prone to obesity. The details of the report were present by European Congress.

The research aimed to find the link between obesity and white bread’s whole grain. The tests were performed on 9,267 Spanish university students because in Spain white bread is considered to be a major part of their diet. The results of the test proved that the increased consumption of white bread can lead to obesity.

According to Martinez-Gonzalez, a member of the research team, the types of carbohydrates present in white bread are the main reason behind gaining of weight. She also added that “Essentially it is equivalent to a high consumption of sugar,” Martinez-Gonzalez said. “The problem is similar to what we see with soft drinks, their sugars are rapidly transformed into fat an organism.”

The research team mentioned that the whole grain from which white bread is prepared does not have any relation with obesity. However white bread consumption might lead to obesity. Martinez-Gonzalez said that during the process of preparing white bread, it loses essential fibers that prevent fat deposition in the body. Martinez-Gonzalez advised people to switch to whole grain consumption rather than eating white bread. Earlier a report released by Cornell University mentioned “The high consumption rate of white bread can lead to heart related problems”.
